About Dean Arun Majumdar

As a sustainability leader with outstanding contributions spanning academia, industry and public service, Dean Arun Majumdar is the inaugural dean of the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability. He is the Jay Precourt Provostial Chair Professor at Stanford, and a faculty member of the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Energy Science and Engineering. His current research focuses on redox reactions and systems that are fundamental to a sustainable energy future.

In addition, Dean Majumdar also serves as Chair of the Advisory Board of the US Secretary of Energy, Jennifer Granholm. Prior to Stanford, he was Founding Director of ARPA-E and served as the Acting Under Secretary of Energy. He was also the Vice President for Energy at Google, where he assembled a team to create technologies and businesses at the intersection of data, computing and electricity grid.

About Professor Yi Cui

As one of the world’s leading nanotechnology researchers and materials scientists, Professor Yi Cui is the inaugural Faculty Director of the Stanford’s Sustainability Accelerator. He is also Director of Precourt Institute for Energy, Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, and Professor of Energy Science & Engineering.

The Sustainability Accelerator is a launch pad to leverage knowledge and expertise at Stanford and co-develop potentially scalable sustainability technology and ecosystem solutions with external partners worldwide, with the goal to substantially and measurably improve the quality of human life and our planet.

In addition, Professor Cui has founded several companies to commercialize technological breakthroughs from his research group. Companies he founded include: Amprius (high-energy lithium-ion batteries on a silicon anode platform, publicly listed as NYSE: AMPX), EnerVenue (metal-hydrogen batteries for large-scale renewable and storage applications) and 4C Air (nanomaterial for filtration applications like clean air).
