Lunch with Lily Fan, Tony Award-winning Broadway producer

Finding your passion – how Lily Fan went from corporate law to Broadway

The Stanford Club of Hong Kong is delighted to welcome Tony Award-winning, Broadway musical producer Lily Fan as our honorable speaker at this luncheon. The event is co-organized with the Yale Club of Hong Kong.

Lily founded Scandobean Productions in 2010 and won her first Tony Award for Best New Musical as a Co-Producer on Hadestown. Coming up in the Fall of 2019, Lily is excited to participate in the production of Sisters In Law, an adaptation of the NYTimes best selling book about the friendship between Sandra Day O’Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Lily will share her journey of career transformation, from a corporate lawyer at Shearman & Sterling and Morrison & Foerster, to becoming one of Broadway’s most successful producers.

About the Speaker

Lily founded Scandobean Productions LLC in 2010 because of her belief that the entertainment sphere is the best medium to inspire thinking, educate and forge differences by changing the way people understand the world and view one another.

In the 2018-9 season, Lily won her first Tony Award for Best New Musical as a Co-Producer on Hadestown. Hadestown also received Tony’s in 7 other categories for a total of 8 awards. Lily was also represented on Broadway in Network starring Bryan Cranston (who received a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play). She has also proudly supported the Broadway productions of box office smash hit The Boys in the Band (2019 Tony Award winner for Best Revival of a Play), To Kill A Mockingbird (2019 Tony Award winner), Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of The Temptations (2019 Tony Award winner), and The Waverly Gallery (2019 Tony Award winner).

Coming up in the Fall of 2019, Lily is excited to participate in the production of Sisters In Law, an adaptation of the NYTimes best selling book about the friendship between Sandra Day O’Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. The show will begin performances at the Wallis Annenberg Center for The Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, California.

Lily was previously represented on Broadway in 2015 by the Tony-nominated dark comedy Hand To God, which transferred to the West End in 2016.  The play was nominated for 4 Tonys and an Olivier Award and is the most produced new play in the U.S. in the 2016-17 season.  Lily’s other Broadway credits include: the Tony-nominated revival of Andrew Lloyd Weber’s Jesus Christ Superstar, David Henry Hwang’s Chinglish on Broadway and its first international tour, and the 2014 revival of the timeless romantic play Love Letters by A.R. Gurney.  Her Off-Broadway credits include The Other Josh Cohen (NYTimes Critics’ Pick), Here Lies Love (NYTimes Critics’ Pick), and Miss Abigail’s Guide to Dating and Mating.   She has also proudly supported the productions of 10 Tony-winner The Band’s Visit, 2 Tony-winner Beautiful, Pulitzer Prize winner Sweat,  Tony-winner Indecent, Tony-winner The MountaintopTony-winner Three Tall WomenIceman Cometh, box office smash hit The Addams Family (The National and International Tour)Something Rotten (Broadway & National Tour), An American In Paris (National Tour & West End)If/ThenThe Last ShipAnn1984, and many more.

She is a graduate of Yale College and Yale Law School.   She was born in Hong Kong and speaks fluent Cantonese.  Besides producing, Lily also has a real estate business and mediates family, entertainment, and other contract disputes.  Lily was previously a lawyer at the law firms of Shearman & Sterling LLP and Morrison & Foerster LLP; specializing in white collar criminal litigation and securities class actions.
